Glen Roberts Woods as Woods. Justin Benson Aaron Moorhead. More like this. Watch options. Storyline Edit. This mind-bending thriller follows two brothers who receive a cryptic video message inspiring them to revisit the UFO death cult they escaped a decade earlier. Hoping to find the closure that they couldn't as young men, they're forced to reconsider the cult's beliefs when confronted with unexplainable phenomena surrounding the camp.

As the members prepare for the coming of a mysterious event, the brothers race to unravel the seemingly impossible truth before their lives become permanently entangled with the cult. Time is a prison. Not Rated. Did you know Edit. Trivia The filmmakers use the song "House of the Rising Sun" throughout because the lyrics are in public domain, which helped them stay within their limited budget. Goofs As the Ascension approaches, the phases of the third moon go from waning crescent to waning gibbous to full, which is the opposite of the actual order of the moon's phases.

Although this could be an error, it could also be a deliberate reflection of the supernatural or otherworldly nature of the rest of the film. Quotes Chris Daniels : You come to the woods with your hair combed forward gelled. User reviews Review. Top review. A rather amazing film. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead wanted to make a film. The problem is that they're newcomers to filmmaking and didn't have the millions it usually costs to make a movie.

So, they chose to star in the film, direct, produce and Benson wrote the script! Watching it is like a lesson on economical filmmaking Justin and Aaron yes, the filmmakers use their real names both apparently left a cult many years ago. Unfortunately, their lives have sucked since and not Aaron is growing wistful and wants to return to this cult for at least a visit. Exasperated, his brother eventually agrees to make the drive to the middle of no where.

Justin, on the other hand, soon learns more about the place and is scared to death I would try to explain more about the plot but it's almost impossible to describe the plot. Instead, just watch it with an open mind and enjoy the high quality of the production.

It's also a film with a few funny moments as well as harrowing ones MartinHafer Oct 26, FAQ 5. Which characters from Resolution appear in this film? Details Edit. Release date April 6, United States.

View All Critic Reviews Oct 10, I think The Endless, their third of four movies, is their best. Their fourth Synchronic, populated with marquee actors and made with a crap more money, was decent but pales next to The Endless. This sci-fi cosmic mind-twister is so authentic with it's Southern Californian foothill setting that I felt like I was part of the titular UFO doomsday cult.

It brought back all kinds of memories of summer camps, car camping, and drinking micro-brews under the So Cal night sky with my cult homies that last part didn't actual happen. Aaron and Justin, real-life brothers, play what could be real versions of themselves as they bicker and argue like normal siblings with selective memory of past events. It is best going into this blind -- in fact, don't even watch the trailer at is one big spoiler reel.

And if you haven't yet, watch their debut film Resolution which literally wraps right into this. It's not a requirement -- it probably still plays like an interesting sub-plot.

The writing is fantastic. The Matryoshka doll-like mystery unpacks itself as the movie plays itself out like the creeptastic signposts "help" you along the way.

The story lives you with a "hint" at a potential third movie to wrap it all up. Mark B Super Reviewer. Dec 15, Much like its sister-film Resolution, this is a mostly uneventful low-budget science fiction that takes forever for things to start to happen - and when they finally do, the result doesn't live up to its promising ideas, becoming only confusing and disappointing in its execution.

Carlos M Super Reviewer. Dec 10, Inspired filmmaking and with a bizarre concept we are left with an indie film that puts Hollywood to shame.

This is like a Shane Carruth created film, it has elements of intelligence and carefully crafted storytelling. Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead will have a bright future in the film industry, they may not have the fame or glory, but they will have body of work that reflects the talent behind them.

The Endless was a hard film to explore, it wants to be more than the budget allows, which is a shame, but on the other hand it inspires creativity.

You will never see a Hollywood film like this, they won't make a big budget film where you need to think. The Endless is one of my favourite new films, even though it came out in I enjoyed the hell out of it and will recommend it to everyone. Beware it is an indie film, but don't let that discourage you.

Brendan N Super Reviewer. Sep 27, Look, I'm probably gonna have a lot to say about this movie and this will most likely include major spoilers for what is going in this cult and the strange occurrences therein and, really, the surrounding area.

So, just as a warning, if you do not want any spoilers and want to go in as blindly as you possibly can, then just don't bother reading this review.

The score will reflect what I thought of the movie, if you're curious what I did think. But, I'll just say it right now, I thought that this was a great, thought-provoking and effective low-budget sci-fi with a lot of big ideas and themes that it explores interestingly and effectively. Regardless, a little bit of backstory. I had seen the trailer for this movie a few months ago and, naturally, as trailers are wont to do, they show blurbs of the reviews showering praise upon this movie and also praising Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead skills as screenwriters and filmmakers, etc, etc.

This movie's description on Rotten Tomatoes mentions that this movie is their follow-up to the 'Lovecraftian modern cult classic Spring'. And I was intrigued by that, because I assumed that I hadn't seen Spring. The thing about that title is that it's not specific enough to make the light bulb in my brain go off and say 'hey, you've seen that movie'.
