How to stop podcast app from downloading on mac

My library still isn't saving. It "thinks" it's still Sept. The last date it saved my settings. I can make new playlists for podcasts although this is superfluous , but iTunes still insists on downloading old episodes anyway, so why bother? I tunes-by design-lists my podcasts individually already. Thanks anyhow.

This is baffling Oct 2, AM. Oct 2, PM. Do you have your media on the external hd and the iTunes folder on the Mac? That sort of setup can lead to complications. Take a look at this User's Tip by Turingtest2. Well, I moved and consolidated everything i needed to from iTunes from my old mac to a Toshiba external hd word of caution: DON'T format these-or any for that matter- drives with the software bundled with them! I did, and had to purchase the software from the developer when I upgraded to Sierra.

Use disk utility to format! My internal hd has iTunes- and all associated folders, etc- but I don't even use it. I've never put anything in it. It's empty. Thanks again. Oct 3, PM. What exactly is on the external HD? Is it just the iTunes Media folder or an iTunes folder with the Media folder inside it? If the former, it would be best to change the setup. I folowed schwartz recommendation Overcast looks good. I subscribed to the same podcast I had in Podcast app. And then I removed the Podcast App. When you do that all data is deleted too. Slightly off topic, do you have a suggestion for a podcast app for intel Macs Overcast seems to be for Apple M1 chips only?

Its home page only says iPad, iPhone and Watch. Thanks for the recommendation It took me a while to sort this out and to realise i needed to start from my iPad. Also how to subscribe to my paid Patreon podcasts, but I made it in the end! Many thanks Rex. The last several updates to the Podcasts app seem increasingly hostile to serial podcasts.

The iOS included podcasts app was formerly an advantage over Android, where you had to find something in that app store, but not with the latest versions.
